wages dispute

hi im currently working for a company that transports patients to and from appointments. when i was hired i was told i would recieve 8.50 hourly. i work 60 hours so it wasnt that bad, my manager told me yesterday that i only get paid 1/2 hour per person. is this legal? sometimes it takes an hour or more to bring the patient to where they need to go, pls advise ASAP

Assuming that you are supposed to be paid $8.50 for each hour actually worked, plus overtime, then you are entitled to be paid for the time you actually spend working.

You should have an attorney review your employment contract/handbook and your payment history. You must file a wage violation complaint with the Attorney General's Office before going forward with a lawsuit, and you should request (or have your attorney request) a copy of your employment file, which you are entitled to by law.

There are harsh penalties for employers who fail to pay their employees, including forcing the employer to pay triple the amount actually owed to the employee, as well as attorneys fees.

If you're supposed to be paid on an hourly basis, then they must pay you for the hours you work. They may desire that you spend only 1/2 hour per person, but if it takes more than that, they must pay you for the time.
