Legal Question in Criminal Law in Massachusetts

i was wondering i have a probable cause hearing that was reschedule and pushed out until sept. 27th 2011 am i able to ask the courts to move that date up to a sooner date or am i stuck waiting. i beleive the reason they pushed it out that far was because the attorney that my family had hired to represent me wanted to give me more time to come up with money to pay him. however i am no longer using his services and i am looking for a new criminal law lawyer. thanks for your help in advance.

Most courts try to accomidate people on scheduling matters. You can call the court and talk to the Clerk's office about this. However, it is probably better for you to hire the lawyer of your choice and let the lawyer deal with the scheduling. While the Clerk's office tends to cooperate, they get irritated if there are numeroius requests to change the date of a hearing.

Alan is completely right. First things first. Get a new lawyer and let them take care of it for you. By the way, sometimes probable cause hearings are pushed out for a long time to allow for indictment by a grand jury. I don't know if this is the case, but if you heard talk about indictment that could also explain the delay.

Retain an attorney first and let that attorney deal with what is in your best interest. Good Luck!
