Police questioning in criminal case
My 21 year old daughter was at a party Fri and Sat night 96/26 and 6/27) Items were stolen from a girls car, who was also at the same pary. The girld fayjer came to my house and asked me about me daughter and where she could be found. By the type of questions he was asking my I feel that, he thinks she took the items (though he never came right out and blamed her). The incidemt was reported to the local police. The police called my daughter and she explained what she knew. Now a detective wants to question her. Shoud I retain a lawyer, and does she have to tak with the detective? She has not been charged with any crime.

You always want to retain an attorney in this type of case-the police will question her but only an experienced attorney can advise her on her legal rights and what she should answer.

Having a lawyer early in this process may prove a very wish choice. Good Luck!

Since it appears they have focused on your daughter as a suspect she should retain an attorney and confide only in that attorney and speak to noone else about this. Good Luck!

She does not have to talk to the detective, but their may be implications or assumptions made by the police if she does not, and she better figure out what her strategy is going to be in dealing with this, because it seems like the police are focusing their attention on her. In a situation like this, I think it would be very wise for her to consult with a criminal attorney for guidance.
