Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Massachusetts

Hi i was wondering about a quick question. Im looking to hire a new lawyor i do not know him to well but he seems legit. He has asked me to send over my court Doccett number to him so he can " request the file " and see what he can do for me . I was wondering is it bad to give out your doc # to someone can they do anything bad with it ?

Thanks

Docket numbers are public information. They often aren't easy to find, which is probably why the lawyer is asking for it. It sounds like he just wants to look at the court file in order to better understand what he would be getting into if he takes your case. He will need the docket number in order to do that, since case files are organized by those numbers. It's hard to see a downside to letting him have this information.
