I am in Boston, MA but my question is about the new bankruptcy laws being debated in congress. If the new restrictions pass congress and become law when will they go into effect?

Assume a 6 month period prior to the new bankruptcy code becoming effective.

The new law is slated to take full effect 180 days after signing by the President. However, some aspects of the law will take effect immediately upon signing. Whether these factors will affect you will depend on the unique circumstances of your finances and assets.
