Bankruptcy Reform Act

I have read that there is pending legislation in Congress to reform current bankruptcy law such that a ''means test'' will be imposed. The purpose of the means test would be to force a greater percentage of Chapter 7 files to Chapter 13 instead. Is this legislation still pending? Or has this now become law? If the bill has not yet been signed into law, when do you expect that to happen?

The bankruptcy reform act died in the last congress. Since it took several years to get to that version, it is expected that no bankruptcy reform is likely to be passed any time soon. But with the Republicans in control of everything, you never know. The changes mainly benefitted the credit card companies. It was torpedoed because the religious right insisted on having a provision expressly permitting the discharge of damages resulting from abortion opponents' harrassment of abortion clinics.
