can i file for bankruptcy if i am on social security?

As long as you are an eligible debtor, under 109 U.S.C. "only a person that resides or has a domicile, a place of business, or property in the United States, or a municipality, may be a debtor under this title." If you have filed Bankruptcy before and it was less than eight years you may be restricted to the Chapter that you can file under. An income requirement is mainly necessary for Chapter 13 for most clients to fund a plan. Debtors who have no income as long as they are eligible can file under Chapter 7.
