Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Massachusetts

I am in a situation where my mortage is 1st. 995.00 and my 2nd. is 600.00. I have been on 32hr week seince jan. my wife is doing 20hrs. a week our income is 2000.00 a month. we are 2 months behind on the first. I asked a local lawyer and he said I cant keep the house to stop paying eveyone and save up first and last month for rent. he didn't mention bankrupy. is this an option, are there other options? I dont make enough to pay it and everything else
