You can file in any state where you live, have a residence or have assets (even if you don't live there). The more difficult question is what property you can claim as exempt. Depending on how long you've lived in Massachusetts, you might have to use the exemptions from Massachusetts no matter where you live. Filing a bankruptcy case is not something that should be done without a lawyer because even a minor mistake can have devastating consequences. Go to nacba.com to find an attorney near you.
