Bounced Pay Check

I deposited my pay check into my checking account and paid my monthly bills, the payroll check bounced and the bank credited the amount out of my account resulting in overdrafts for several of my bills. Do I have any recourse with my employer for causing this situation?

Re: Bounced Pay Check

Unless you are tired of your job, you are not approaching this issue in the most practical way. If you simply tell your supervisor about the problem, the employer will likely fix things without your threatening legal claims. Sure, they made a mistake by failing to cover their payroll account -- maybe a transfer didn't go through, etc., so give them a chance to gracefully cure the problem.

That said, you should keep your ears open about the fiscal situation of your employer, and you might want to start discreetly looking for options in case your employer goes under. I would also suggest cashing your paychecks at the employer's bank for the next couple of pay periods....

Best wishes,
