Legal Question in Business Law in Massachusetts
Deducting money from pay for not selling retail
I work for a company and we work
on commission and we are taxed
employees. The company has decided
that if we do not sell enough
products per week, we will have one
dollar deducted from every service
that we perform which will be
deducted in one lump sum from our
check. Is this legal?

I am unclear as to why you are providing a free service or what it is for, but they cannot deduct $1.00 for making a sales call. I need more facts to be sure what they are doing and why, but it based on what you say simply, the policy would appear to be illegal.

This is unacceptable, and violates the wage laws. You can and should contact the Attorney General's office, unless the company stops and returns all deductions.
