How to establish 501(3)C status for my organization

We're a grass-roots organization wondering if

establishing 501(3)C status will be too complicated

for our small (non-lawyered) group and not sure of the

benefits.

Re: How to establish 501(3)C status for my organization

What is the political agenda of your organization? How do you expect to raise funds and how will you use them?

Big Advantage: if you are going to receive contributions, you'll want to tell people that they are tax-deductible, right? And you won't want to pay any income tax on the income that those contributions cause you.

I can set up the entity for you ( a trust or a corporation ) and get the IRS certification for you, and then hand you over to an accountant. You should expect to pay $500 - $1000 to get set up and $500 - $1000 for annual accounting at the end of each fiscal year.

If you have over $100,000 coming in a year, you need a review-level audit by a CPA firm; over $250,000 a full audit.

I have just the accounting firm to use. I play basketball with one of their partners and they do a lot of these rather efficiently, I think.
