What financial information is a private shareholder entitled to?

I was curious as to what rights, as a private shareholder, an individual has in terms of seeing relevant financial statements, including profit, loss, director salaries and the like. Also wondering what statute/law governs this...

This issue is governed by the law under which the corporation is chartered (i.e., if a Delaware corporation, then by Delaware law). I believe that every state's law provides for stockholder inspection rights -- both MA and DE certainly do. There are some limitations on the proper purpose for conducting such inspections. I interpret your question as seeking basic information that should ordinarily be presented by the Treasurer at the annual meeting of the corporation, but which has apparently not been dissemenated to the stockholders. Such a request for information is inherently valid unless you actually intend to provide confidential information to a competitor or potential acquirer....

If company incorparated in MA, call SEcy of State's office for advice. You should have access to financials. If publicy traded, contact SEC
