Legal Question in Business Law in Massachusetts

Independent Contractor Law

I work for a small company as an independent contractor (I get a 1099 at the end of the year).

My question is, the company is demanding a lot of the spreadsheets and other information I have produced during my tenure at the company - are those spreadsheets my property, or the property of the company? In other words, can I reasonably deny them access?

Re: Independent Contractor Law

It depends on what your contract says and what the information represents. If it is for work you already provided to them, you should provide them with printouts for their records.

It is likely that any information that was designated as confidential under your agreement you cannot use for yourself or anyone else.

Without seeing your contract I can not give you an adequate response.

I am not sure why you feel that you are not obligated to share this?
