Legal Question in Business Law in Massachusetts
If I informed some of my employers customers that I'm starting my own business would my employer have any legal recourse?

yes. An employee is not entitled to use his employers customer list for his or her own benefit.
The other attorney is on point here, but it also depends on (a) whether the identity of the customers is proprietary; and (b) whether you signed a nondisclosure agreement covering this issue. Consult with an attorney in your area for specifics.

You have said nothing that would create a problem. However as the others said, there are potential problems.
I agree that, based ONLY on your brief description above, you have done nothing wrong. You are, however, charting a dangerous course and I recommend speaking with an attorney before this becomes a larger problem.
