Mileage Reinbursement

I was asked by my employer 4-months ago to temporarily transfer to a different office which increases my comute by an extra 50-miles a day. My employer agreed to reinburse the extra mileage every month. Starting this month they are refusing to reinburse my mileage and are not giving me the option to go back to my former office which is now being occupied by someone else. Can they legally do that?

Bear in mind that, absent an employment contract or some discriminatory motive (which you don't mention), your employer can terminate you at any time for any reason or no reason. In this economy, it is a bad time to put your current job at risk over such an issue. Your legal remedy would be to obtain the promised reimbursement but without any obligation of the employer to retain your ongoing employment.
