Legal Question in Business Law in Massachusetts
I have a retail skateboard shop opening next week here in MA. I will be throwing a private party in the evening at the shop with the doors locked... can I provide beer for free? or can it be BYOB? as it is private?

You need to check with the Town where the shop is located and find out what their rules require for such events. Most Towns require that you obtain a special permit, even though it is a private party.
In addition, make sure your insurance covers potential liability for the party and that you have your landlord's permission to have the party.
If someone leaves your party, whether you provided the liquor or not and gets in an accident under the dramshop act you could have substantial liability to the patron as well as anyone he or she hurts.
