Can I name my rock band after a famous european dead scientist? My issue was copyright and legal issues with surviving relatives and scientific publications that use his name!

In the US the use of an individual's name is not protected, however in Europe, expecially the UK, it is. Even if only used in the US you could not trade on the Scientists image or work. The problem in copyright is the name used for music, more over, is the name trademarked and in what classifications.
