Legal Question in Business Law in Massachusetts
sale of promotional copies
Hi,
I will be releasing a CD soon, and based on my experience with a previous release, I am thinking of stamping CDs with the words:
''PROMOTIONAL COPY
SALE OF THIS ALBUM
PROHIBITED BY LAW''
Would it actually be illegal to sell the promotional copies, which are offered in good faith to writers and disk jockies?
Would this law differ from state to state?
Thanks,
G

Re: sale of promotional copies
Yes, you are within your rights to prohibit such sales; policing the prohibition is difficult, but it can't do any harm to so mark your distributed copies.
