Legal Question in Business Law in Massachusetts

"Sold As Is" sales slip i private sales.

I sold a boat in a private sale and wrote "Sold As Is" on the sales slip. The buyer claims I misrepresented the sale on the grounds that he says the engine is not in the running condition I told him it was. He is planning on taking it to small claims court on the basis I misrepresented the sale. Am I legally obligated even though I gave no guarantee and sold it "As Is"?

Re: Boat sale, small claims

Call a Mass. lawyer; ask if there is a "lemon law"

for boats. Also, writing "as is" does not, let us say,

give you a blank check to make statements about the

condition of the boat without being held to them.

Your statements, if believed, may become terms of the sale.

What port are you near? Call me if you'd like me to find

more specific law on the subject of boat sales and "as is"

sales of boats. I'm in Newton, Mass.
