Legal Question in Business Law in Massachusetts
A Student Bill
I signed up for a summer class at my local college. They have a policy that if you decide not to take the class that there would be a 50.00 non-refundable fee that will be owed to the school. I ended up not taking the class and went down to the college to pay my fee. At the time I was told that I didn't owe anything and I asked them for a copy of my bill, to show that I had a zero balance. Now, a few months later, the school is sending me a bill for the 50.00. When I told them that I had a copy of my bill showing a zero balance they told me that they add the 50.00 on manually and that it didn't show up at the time I went to pay it. This situation does not feel right to me. Is this legal and do I have to pay the bill.

Re: A Student Bill
It sounds like the person with whom you spoke may have made an error. Apparently you knew that there was a fee. I can only suggest that you try calling the college and tell them about what happened, and that you were given a statement wherein it is apparent there was no fee. If you have any other questions, contact me.
