Legal Question in Business Law in Massachusetts

termination without cause or notice

Situation: cross-country professional driver of military freight, 19 1/2 years with the company, senior OTR driver with the company, employing approx. 150 across the country

In your opinion, do I have any basis for action against my former employer? My co-driver and I were terminated 12/18/06 without any notice, and were given no reason for the termination, when we specifically asked for one we were told it was a ''management decision'' without any other explanation. We had just received performance bonuses, new uniforms, etc. Three days before the termination phone calls we were sent information about updating Haz-Mat certifications. We both hold high level government clearances for military work. Our ages are 57 and 62 and I am one-half Hispanic. Thank you.

Re: termination without cause or notice

Employees at will can be terminated for any reason, except race, color, national orgin, sex, age etc. If you believe you were fired due to your age or race we can file a charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ("EEOC").
