A company has not paid my small (d.b.a.) business invoices. What can I do to get them to pay me?

Re: Unpaid invoices

Retain an attorney to send a demand letter and follow through by filing suit as applicable. Good Luck!

Re: Unpaid invoices

If the bill is under $2000.00 you can sue in small claims court. If the bill is more than $2000.00 you would be well advised to consider retaining a lawyer. A demand letter from a law office may prompt a response by the debtor.

Re: Unpaid invoices

Your best bet is to send a written demand to the company for all money owed. You should indicate that the company has 14 days to pay the debt, or you will retain an attorney to collect all moneys owed.

You should then have an attorney send a demand letter, again giving the company 14 days to pay. Again, they should be told that if they do not pay, suit will be filed. As has already been indicated, the amount of the invoice will depend on which court you file in.

If they do not pay, suit should be filed.

It is best to have a system in place to handle this very situation. You want to keep this process on a very strict timeline and be sure to follow through on the consequences.
