Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Massachusetts
Hello,
I work for a small successful venture capital firm in MA with zero policies and procedures regarding employee relations, i.e. no Human Resources Department. Several months ago I was call a flunky by my supervisor, who happens to be the CFO of the firm as well. When I told never to call me that again he replied, "What are you gonns do about it?". Mind you, he is a very trusted and powerful force in this firm and feel he is above the law. Being that we have no policies and procedures with the firm's Controller as the defacto Human Resources profesional/department. I havenever felt so powerless in my life. What are my rights if any?

There is nothing illegal about a boss being rude or mean to an employee. It is illegal to sexually harass or mistreat on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity, age. Unless the behavior falls within a statutorily prohibited category, then there is nothing you can do except quit. I am assing you are an employee at will. If you have a written contract giving you additional rights, you should consult that closely.
