Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Massachusetts

Judges decision

Hi..My son(18) was brought in front of a judge from the public gallery at a criminal court case for wearing shorts. He did not know of a dress code and was not told by a court officer that he needed to leave or change, even though the court officer made him aware of the rule once he sat in the public gallery.

The judge ordered him to the bench where he was taken away by court officers. He was searched, handcuffed and shackled and taken to a cell where there was a bank robber, a rapist and a murder suspect with him.(I,m not kidding) He was held for several hours and then released after the judge dismissed him. The judge would not allow him to explain himself at any time. I know the judge has the right to run his court any way he wants but does he have the right to do this? Last time I checked this was America. My son has never been in any kind of trouble and this has destroyed his faith in the justice system. Many thanks

Regards...Frank
