Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Massachusetts

I was stopped and questioned by a police officer who suspected me of being involved with a robbery based on the color of my tshirt and shorts that day. After a short "interrogation" the cop put me against a wall and frisked me, but was pulling my property out almost immediately. Because I was in a public place and had so little evidence saying that I took part in a crime I am wondering if the search was illegal. If so, the following arrest would be illegal and I am hoping to recover over a years worth of damages this case has put me through.
