Legal Question in Technology Law in Massachusetts
I work for a nonprofit agency and I am in charge of staff training. If we were to purchase some staff training videos and upload them to either a YouTube channel or onto our website for the purpose of staff training, would our agency be violating any laws. What could we do so we don't break any copyright or propriety laws? I am attempting to make the video more accessible to our programs and staff - I could just lend the DVD to for our programs to view, but putting the same video online would be more accessible for our staff.
Thank you,
Scott Chausse

The training videos are almost certainly copyrighted. Whether you would violate the owner's copyright by posting them online will depend on how you do it. Making them more accessible is a good reason to *want* to post them, but it has very little to do with whether you may do so legally. You should discuss your specific plans with your agency's lawyers before you proceed.
Good luck.
