if a modular home company gives me a builder and i have a contract with the builder to build their home and the builder takes off with my money can they be held accountable

Probably, for negligent hiring, negligent supervision, perhaps more, depending on what they knew or should have known about this particular builder's business practices or ability to complete construction in good faith without taking off with customer's money. The wrinkle is that your contract was with the builder, but that might be overcome.
