Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts

Attachment of wages

Received a letter from a collection attorney stating that after repeated attempts to reach me, although I had never received any other corespondence before this, they and their client would attach my wages unless I contacted them. Their client was listed as Gulf State Credit, which I had never heard of. I have great credit and would bet my life I do not owe anyone anything. There is no amount stated on the letter and no account number. Can someone attach my wages?

Re: Attachment of wages

A creditor has to go to court to get a levy against our wages. You should call the state office of consumer affairs for information about your rights under the fair credit reporting act and to report the attorney. If a MA attorney, call the Board of Bar Overseers
