Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts

I bought a car from a small private dealer in the state of Massachusetts a month ago. I could not get a second opinion from a mechanic as the dealer said I can't take the car that far away with the dealer's plates. I told him the brakes need fixing, he said he'll speak with his mechanic and the next day - he told me he bought me pads but they don't really need to be changed for another year. One week after I bought the car - the check engine light went on - turns it's a catalytic converter problem which will cost around $500 to repair, the brakes need to have the rotor and caliper and pads changed - another $300, and the battery is low. Is there something I can legally do to make the dealer pay for some of the repairs?

i hope you have something in writing. If you feel wronged, file an action. If the vehicle cannot pass inspection, you may have a right of return it.
