Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts

Buying a pet from an out of town breeder

I was trying to purchase a yorkie puppy from a man in texas over the internet. The man sent me a puppy agreement and I sighned it and emailed it back asking him to let me know if he has recieved it (because I dont realy know how). The man hasent emailed me back and no money has been exchanged and I am interested in another puppy,am I still legally bound to the agreemant or can I go ahead and purchase another puppy. How long do I have to wait before I can get another puppy without worring about having to legally purchase the first puppy because he has the sighned document?

Re: Buying a pet from an out of town breeder

Your first big mistake is buying a puppy over the internet without getting multiple references and checking out where that puppy came from, etc. There are a massive amount of puppy mills and if you end up with a puppy from one of those mills be prepared to visit the vets on a regular basis.

Also, stay away from pet stores those animals are also purchased from Iowa, Texas, etc. Your best bet is to find a reputable breeder and go visit the facility so you know what you are getting.

In regard to the contract, without knowing more details (i.e. how it was signed, what the contract says and how long ago you signed, etc.)

Hopefully, you did not give private information in that email/contract. Please be careful in your methods of conducting business, there are thousands and thousands of scams out there!

If you want to email me with more details on the contract you signed, (i.e. the wording, how long ago, and more importantly the site where you found the puppy you wanted to purchase).

Good luck! Sincerely, Maria Murber
