Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts

When does a contract for service expire?

I hired a plumber to do a job in my residence which is a 7 unit house that I own. He turned out to not be a licensed plumber. He payed someone else to start the job, but it has not been finished. He agreed to give us our money back but has been giving us the run around. He then claims because the contract has no expiration date he does not have to give us our money back because there is no deadline to finish the job. My question is if there is no expiration date on a written contract does it ever expire?

Re: When does a contract for service expire?

Plumbers have to be licensed. Call you town or city hall of the state department of licenses. The contract is unemforceable in any event becuase his misrepresnted his qualifications for the job. Every contract that does ot provide a termination date is to be performed in a reasonable time. If he does not return all of the money you gave him, in luding what he paoid the other worker, you have a claims under the MA consumer protection law. If you gave him a substantial amount of money you should talk to an attorney.
