Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts

credit card

Back in Aug 2002 I cam into little and limited amount of money. i sat down and sent reg. letters to all my credit cards to offer pay offs. all but one accepted. now after all this time (witch they did not answer me in 06) stared sending collection co. after me. now i have been served to go to court. also added on about 4k more sence 02 plus attorney fees . can they do this???

It is important for you to figure out the last date of activity on your account to see whether the statute of limitations may have run. This means that the company can no longer pursue you in court for the debt if too much time has expired. In Massachusets this time limit is 6 years since the last activity date. Whetehr they can continue to add interest and attorney's fees will be governed by your credit card agreement. Most of these contracts provide that they can recover these costs.
