You did the only thing you can do, which is return the dog to the rescue organization. Under the circumstances you described, you would be liable for the injuries your dog causes to other people.

I'm not sure what kind of recourse you are looking for, since they took the dog back. You would certainly be justified in seeking a refund, if you wanted.

Perhaps you are wondering whether you have any recourse against the rescue organization in the event that you are sued by the individuals who were injured by the dog?

You should be entitled to your choice of another dog or a refund of whaterver you paid for that dog.

If you are being sued by those whom the dog bit, you would be entitled to implead the rescue agency as someone who could be liable to reimburse you for any damages recovered against you, provided you can prove they knew the dog had aggressive propensities about which they failed to inform you before you adopted the dog.
