Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts
Gas turned off
My wife and myself moved into an apartment in Quincy, MA about a month ago. A week after we moved in, we followed the procedure of the gas company such as sending in ID and such.
All was fine until we went camping this weekend, only to return to have our gas shut off. No notice, no calls, no bills.
Is this legal? Your help is VERY much appreciated.

Re: Gas turned off
Call the gas company and get them back out there. You are not responsible for the prior tenant's bill. If they balk, after they of course feign surprise over their mistake, you should call the local housing inspection officer, who may be of assistance. Failing all of this, a telefax from an attorney ought to get attention.
