Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts
Jewlery Return Policy Changed
Four days ago, for my birthday, my husband purchased 2 bracelets at a jewery store he has used many times in the past 3-4 years. 30-40% of the time after his shopping trips I return part or all of the jewlery, stating excess. Even still,I own quite afew items from this store!
Today, returning the 2 bracelets (total $2310.00) I was given a 1-year-store-credit,no refund. I promised them we would only shop together in the future eliminating any returns issues to no avail.
Is it legal to be refused refunds and issued store credit only? And, if I refuse to use this store's credit can I file some kind of document to get cash refunded or do they just get to keep it?
Should I pursue this? Will it require legal/court action? Does MA law allow retailers to change/limit returns to ''exchanges only'' after previous refunds?
By the way, besides this,we do not have any merchandise/refund experience beyond the rare return for wrong size/color,etc.
Thank you very much in advance for any advice - we do so appreciate your time and expertise!

Re: Jewlery Return Policy Changed
Refund policy should be posted prominently in store. If not, store may have to accept return. Call the Office of Consumer Affairs. Merchandise credit is good forever.
