Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts

liable or not??

purchased car 4 months ago in a private party sale. was not informed that car had any damage or was in a prior accident. recently had some body work done. my mechanic said that the cars frame is bent and it is missing several important parts resricting the safety so much it is undrivable. basically the car is totaled. Mechanic said'' you are lucky to be alive driving this for past four months.'' is the private party i bought the car from liable in this case????

It depends upon what the private party seller knew and what was communicated to you.

Re: liable or not??

MA law gives you a very limited time to bring car to mechanic in order to revoke sale. If seller is in business of selling used cars, you may have claim under the MAS Consumer Protection law. Send demand letter to seller with specific demand for money and stating that "this is a demand letter under MGL Chapter 93A. No rights if seller not in business of selling cars.
