Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts

Movers stole my stuff

I recently relocated from Rhode Island to Texas with a Massachusetts

moving company. As the movers loaded my stuff onto the truck, they

marked each box with a numbered sticker and wrote it on an inventory

sheet. When my household goods arrived in Texas, I was missing my X-

Box and Playstation video game consoles, which were packed in the

original boxes. Also, some of the other boxes in my shipment had

arrived with double stickers. Basically, my games were stolen and the

stickers removed and placed on other boxes. I've tried to get

compensation from the moving company, but they won't return my

phone calls, and now they've merged with another company! They at

least owe me the standard $.60/lb replacement insurance. What should I

do?

Re: Movers stole my stuff

They should provide you with a claim form for lost goods. If you want to sue them for theft, you'll have to sue them in Massachusetts with a local attorney.

You can file a lawsuit here in Austin, Texas, to try to recover your losses. But prior to that, you will need to compile evidence to substantiate your claims. I can help you do this. Please call me to discuss.
