Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

What amount necessary?

A cancelled credit card I am trying to pay off wants a settlement that calls for a amount that I can not pay each month. If I continue with my payments faithfully each month, no matter the amount, can they still place this in a collection agency, or with their legal staff?
