can an attorney for a collection agency put a lien on your property in ma for credit card debt-I thought credit cards were unsecured debt

Yes, once a creditor has obtained a judgment against a debtor, the creditor can use that judgment to engage in further collection activity, including wage garnishment, civil arrest, levy of assets, and property. AS was said, the creditor needs to have gone to court, and you should have gotten notice of the action.
