Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

My bank turned me over to their attorney and filed a civil suit for missing two credit card payments in one year. I responded to the lawyer and he told me to keep paying, but the bank said "no, it's in the lawyers hands". So, I called the court and they told me to file a motion. So, now I have a court date. Should I hire an attorney or would I be able to represent myself.

If you have a lawsuit filed against you, there are a number of things you should be doing in order to preserve your rights and maximize your chances for a positive outcome. First, make sure you file an answer to their complaint, laying out all defenses and counterclaims, if any. Secondly, make sure you respond to all discovery requests in a timely manner. Make sure you also send out discovery requests of your own, if there is any information you believe you need to adequately prepare a defense of some kind. Lastly, do not sign anything put in front of you by the plaintiff's attorney without speaking to a lawyer, and do not miss any court dates or procedural deadlings, or you may find that a default judgment will enter against you.
