Old bill
There is an old telephone bill on my credit report. I contacted the company in question about the bill and asked that they mail me a itemized bill. I don't think it's my bill, however they were going to mail it 2 months ago and I have not recieved anything yet. I don't think this is my bill. I called twice requesting an itemized bill and still nothing. I disputed this bill and it comes back that it stays on my report. Do I write a letter to the company and request that they send it within 30 days. It's obvious that they can't even send a copy of the bill and I don't think it should be on my credit report.

There are provisions under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( 15 U.S.C. 1681 et seq.) which enable a consumer to compel a consumer reporting agency to correct or delete inaccurate, adverse information contained on a credit report. In general, if the completeness or accuracy of any item of information contained in a consumer's file at a consumer reporting agency is disputed by the consumer and the consumer notifies the agency directly of such dispute, the agency shall reinvestigate free of charge and record the current status of the disputed information, or delete the item from the file before the end of the 30 day period beginning on the date which the agency receives notice of the dispute. The procedure is fairly complex and can be a bit bouncy. Thus,it should be done with the help of a licensed attorney.
