Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts
case management conference what is it?
I have to appear in district court for a notice of case management conference.I owe Target money and they have set up this conference.I called the credit agency and tried to work out a payment plan of $25.00 a month but they would not accept it and told me I would have to pursue the court option.I have to be in court in the afternoon on third session.
What will happen at this session. Will my case be heard in a room by myself or will the setting be in a court room? how long will it take? Will I need to bring any papers other thant the court summons? thanks

Re: case management conference what is it?
If you read the information contained in the notice of case management confernce, it will tell you what will happen. The CMC is usually conducted in the courtroom by the clerk, but I have been to a few where they have been conducted by a judge. The parties will agree on deadlines for the litigation and will set a date for the final pre-trial conference. You can always discuss settlement of the case with the lawyer at that time. If you owe a large balance, the creditor normally will not be interested in a long repayment time, but if you can document that $25/month is the best that you can do, they may agree.
