Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

Can you help?

A collection company is calling people who live across the street people I don't know and giving them information about what their business is with me. they have also called relatives and given them the same info. This is quite humiliating especially with these neighbors that I don't know, who now have to come to my house with phone numbers for me to call. My question is, is this legal?

Re: Can you help?

If the facts are as you state them retain an attorney to prosecute them for violation of federal and state debt collection laws which are also violations of consumer protection laws which may entitle you to multiple damages and attorney's fees. Good Luck!

No, it's not legal. What you've described is as violation of the FDCPA. It's a typical example of the desperate lengths these dirt-bag collectors will go to.
