Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

co-signed auto loan

I co-signed for a auto loan which was paid on time, and paid in full. the person I co-signed for moved 3 times during the course of the loan (ny, n jersey) and their addresses appears as mine on my credit reports. so it looked as though I was moving all over. I contacted the agency and filed a dispute giving the explantion. the answer I received was that it was the correct information, and it will stay on my report! I have been in the same home for 20 years! what can I do now?

Re: co-signed auto loan

Pursuant to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, a consumer has the right to dispute inaccurate information on his/her credit report. The issue centers around the meaning of "inaccurate". That issue notwithstanding, you do have a right under 15 U.S.C. 1681i et seq. to file a brief statement of not more than 100 words summarizing your version of the dispute and have this statement( or a summary thereof) noted in each subsequent credit report.
