Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

i was taken to court for owing honda money after a total loss of the vehicle and no insurance. we came to an agreement that states i would pay 7200 at 300 a month. i have paid 6000 to date BUT when i asked for a statement from the debt collector it said i still owe another 4900 they added fee's on top of the original agreement. do i have to pay this or is the court ordered signed agreement for 7200 valid?

First of all, this is why I recommend that consumers NEVER enter into 'payment plans' with creditors. Secondly, you should really take your paperwork to an attorney, who can attempt to decipher what you are being charged, applicable interest rates, etc.

There is little to add to what attorney Vaughn-Martel has said. The problem is that the little guy usually does not use a lawyer for these things, and ends up with these kinds of problems. Any decent lawyer can probably at least explain what has happened to you. Those of us who specialize in this area might be able to do something about it.

Best of luck,

Dan Gindes
