Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

Credit Card Debt

My aunt owes about 6 credit card companies. A few months ago she stopped paying all of them because she just doesn't have the money. She is 64 and on SSI, taking care of her 13 yr. old grandson who is disabled and on SSI as well. One of the credit card companies is taking her to court this coming August. The question is: under MA law, what recourse does she have now that she cannot pay these credit cards anymore and how will this affect her credit?

Re: Credit Card Debt

I belive the only "protection" is under federal law, that is bankruptcy. If I understand your question is that she charged using six credit cards even though she had insufficient funds, and now she cannot pay what she charged?
