Credit collection agency rights
Can a collection agency solicite information regaurding income and such from a consumers employer. In this case a fax to the consumers employer asking for income and employment verification.

In Massachusetts, there is a statute which gives you a right of privacy in personal information. In general, then, unless you give permission, the collection agency can ask for the information, but your employer should refuse the request. Commonly, however, applications for credit include a provision giving them permission to obtain such information. You need to check on the application, because you may have given permission without realizing it. Good luck. David Baker
