Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts
Credit Overseas
I stayed in USA for the past 4 years and have been using the credit mastercard here.
I am leaving US for good to some other country and I do not have the capability to pay up the Credit. Will I get into a lot of trouble ? Will they ever find me if I no longer in USA?

Re: Credit Overseas
Incurring debt with no intention of paying it back is a form of fraud; maybe not criminal, but certainly rather dishonest. If you were to file a bankruptcy case, you could be denied a discharge of your debts! That said, however, it seems unlikely that the credit card company would chase you overseas. On the other hand, you might have problems getting credit overseas because they might check your credit here and if they did, they would probably find out about the unpaid credit card. There is also a thing called a "statute of limitation". This statue puts a limit on how much time a creditor has to sue you for the debt. For things like credit cards, it is usually six years. However, the six years would not run while you are out of the country; if you ever came back, the six years would start to run THEN. It's better to pay up, or to make some sort of deal with the credit card company. Good luck!
