Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

credit service from another state want's 9 year old debt.

I live in MA and have my whole life. a credit service has contacted me 4 day saying i owe them money and that i must goto court for a credit card debt that was supposedly opened in 1998. after briefly speaking with them they informed my they ''served'' me in 2003 in RI at my mothers house, which i never lived at. Is it legal to take me to court in a state i never lived. I learned that the statute of limitations in MA is 6yrs and RI is 10. I did go to court 4 days after i got the letter but empahatically denied owing this money. When talking to the lawyer for the credit service, by the way a lier and a jerk, I had said thet for a small reasonable price I would give him money to get off my back. Now he's giving me the runaround with different amounts of money every day and telling me that it takes time to get in touch with his client, which i found out was him. He was the treasurer of the credit service and was taking 24+ hours to return my calls. Sorry to be long winded, but i could use some help. If more info is needed just ask and i'll reply.

It sounds like there was a judgment out of the Rhode Island court?
